Should I get paid? How? It all looks so daunting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We wanted to answer all these questions, and find out exactly how you go about getting gigs, even at the lowest level. So we went to the people who have done it, to make the daunting look a little less intimidating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take it from Jack Milner, bassist for band<em><strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/penumbra_band_?igsh=MWJ2b2ZyeWQ4YXJ5bQ==\">Penumbra<\/a> <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/hardasnailsband?igsh=MTRqMWh2bDNtZGU1YQ==\">HARD AS NAILS<\/a><\/strong><\/em>. \u201cI used to think there was nothing going on but I was so wrong. I was just looking in the wrong places,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Social media is always a great shout to learn about local venues, and that is exactly what Jack did. \u201cI went onto facebook and searched for local venues in my area and came across a few and made notes. Instagram and twitter also worked great too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI then headed down to a few gigs at those places which were usually free or cost a couple of quid to get through the door.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Though, a bit of courage was all that was needed to gain some real contacts and open up a few more doors. \u201cI just got talking to people that were there you know got their social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut what helped the most was walking up and talking to the bands after they had finished their sets. I would chat to them, get their socials, ask them questions, see where else they had played and then made a few notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was a bit nervous at first to go and talk to bands but they were always so friendly and super easy to talk to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also tired just walking into pubs and venues asking for gigs. Jack said: \u201cI did that once or twice, usually they just give you an email to send your request too but still, the more the merrier.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-medium\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" data-src=\"https:\/\/feedbackmag.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2024\/05\/unnamed-300x300.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1866 lazyload\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/300;\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Penumbra in action<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>His final tip is to keep an eye out for posters around town: \u201cOnce you know how to spot them you see them everywhere, bands and artists playing at so many locations around town I had no idea about before seeing them on posters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot just that, but bigger venues in your area may have billboards just full of posters so you can see what&#8217;s going down. These are really really useful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jack said once he built up a few contacts he found his bands getting even more opportunities.
