Sheffield is preparing to host one of the biggest sporting events as the ISU Figure Skating European Championships 2026 arrive at the Utilita Arena in less than 100 days.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The championships, taking place from 13 to 18. January 2026 will mark the first time in over a decade that the UK has hosted the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 160 of Europe’s best skaters will compete across men’s singles, women’s singles, pairs, and ice dance disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mark Hanretty, ISU Figure Skating European Championships Ambassador, said: “
This initiative goes beyond the ice \u2013 it’s about bringing people together, celebrating our city, and making sure everyone feels included.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As one of the last major competitions before the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the championships promise fans an early glimpse of Olympic-level performances and are expected to attract thousands of visitors to Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the run-up to the event, Sheffield City Council will work with Everyone Active, British Ice Skating, and the Sheffield Schools Get Active Network, launching a wide-ranging programme of community activities to ensure the whole city feels part of the celebration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Councillor Mohammed Mahroof, Chair of the Economic Development, Skills and Culture Committee, said: “Our aim is to leave a lasting legacy \u2013 encouraging greater participation in ice sports, breaking down barriers to involvement, and building stronger community connections that will continue long after the final skater has left the ice.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The legacy programme will include learn-to-skate sessions for local schools, inclusive SEND ice sports days, talks from elite athletes, and art and cultural projects inspired by the championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 10,000 young people across the city are expected to take part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first legacy activities begin on 23 October, with dedicated SEND Ice Sports Open Days at iceSheffield, offering children with special educational needs and disabilities a chance to experience skating and curling in an inclusive environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ISU European Figure Skating Championships 2026 are set to secure Sheffield’s reputation as a leading city for international sport and community participation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
