{"id":734,"date":"2025-10-13T10:10:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T09:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jusmedia.co.uk\/360wire\/?p=734"},"modified":"2025-10-13T10:10:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T09:10:10","slug":"withernsea-man-fined-after-abandoning-his-retired-car-for-four-months","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jusmedia.co.uk\/360wire\/2025\/10\/13\/withernsea-man-fined-after-abandoning-his-retired-car-for-four-months\/","title":{"rendered":"Withernsea man fined after abandoning his retired car for four months"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>David Kelly of North Promenade, Withernsea, ignored repeated requests from officers to remove his blue Saab from the public highway in Young Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The court heard East Riding of Yorkshire&#8217;s Council began investigations on the abandoned car in December 2024, over four months before it was removed by the council on 28 April this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Streetscene enforcement officers discovered Kelly to be the registered owner of the car, which was registered with the DVLA as being off the road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelly was issued with a \u00a3200 fixed penalty notice, however he failed to pay and the case was taken to Beverly Magistrates&#8217; Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Wednesday 8 October Kelly failed to attend court and was convicted of the offence of abandoning a vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was fined a total of \u00a31,188.64.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carl Skelton, director of streetscene servicers at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: &#8221;Abandoned cars can be a real nuisance for residents and become a safety hazard, so we appreciate it when members of the public report them to us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8221;We can usually resolve the situation with the owners and get them to move the vehicles themselves, but in cases like this the council will step in to remove them and recover our costs.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To report an abandoned vehicle or for more information on the offence visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eastriding.gov.uk\/environment\/roads-streets-traffic-and-parking\/abandoned-and-nuisance-vehicles\/ \">https:\/\/www.eastriding.gov.uk\/abandoned-and-nuisance-vehicles<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>David Kelly of North Promenade, Withernsea, ignored repeated requests from officers to remove his blue Saab from the public highway in Young Street.
