A multi-million pound investment to drive coastal regeneration and improve the wellbeing of communities, is to be considered by councillors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a320 million of government funded money will remain for Scarborough as part of a wider national programme to bring investments to towns across the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Council leader for North Yorkshire, Cllr Carl Les, said: \u201cThis funding provides an important opportunity to make a positive and lasting difference for the communities in Scarborough and its surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe town is a fantastic place to live, work and visit \u2013 but it does need investment, and we hope this funding can help drive economic growth, develop a sustainable stream of job opportunities and improve the health and wellbeing of communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are committed to ensuring this funding is used in the best possible way to benefit communities and acts as a catalyst for further investment in the town.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funding aims to make long-term improvements and seeks to foster community pride by implementing green spaces, reliable transport links and more opportunities for young people in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scarborough Neighbourhood Board is responsible for co-ordinating how the Government funding will be spent in the town, and are working in partnership with North Yorkshire Council. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A draft 10 year regeneration plan has been produced by the group, as well as an investment plan which outlines the areas where an initial \u00a36.8 million could be spent before 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cllr Carl Les added: “I\u2019d like to thank members of the Scarborough Neighbourhood Board for their work so far, and members of the executive will carefully consider these proposals next week.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both documents will be considered by members of the council’s executive on Tuesday 4 November. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Government’s national programme has been rebranded as the Plan for Neighbourhoods with an expanded remit to improve health and wellbeing, it was initially known as the Long-Term Plan for Towns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative will see \u00a319.5 million earmarked for Scarborough over the next decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
