{"id":2254,"date":"2025-10-27T15:10:28","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T15:10:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jusmedia.co.uk\/360wire\/?p=2254"},"modified":"2025-10-28T20:44:58","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T20:44:58","slug":"north-yorkshire-council-to-consider-40-million-investment-to-promote-active-and-healthy-living","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jusmedia.co.uk\/360wire\/2025\/10\/27\/north-yorkshire-council-to-consider-40-million-investment-to-promote-active-and-healthy-living\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a340 million investment to promote healthy living to be considered"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A \u00a340 million investment scheme that aims to improve wellness facilities will be considered by members of North Yorkshire Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillors will meet next Tuesday to consider a proposed leisure investment strategy aimed at promoting health and active communities across the county.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cllr Simon Myers, executive member for culture, arts and housing said: \u201cThe proposed investment is set to represent a real watershed moment for us&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt shows the commitment we have to making sure that everyone in North Yorkshire has the best opportunities possible to stay active or take up exercise to help to promote both physical and mental health and wellbeing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere has been a great deal of work on these proposals to make sure that we can provide our leisure services as effectively as possible through the new Active North Yorkshire banner.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will consider the plans carefully when they are presented to members of the council\u2019s executive next week.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It aims to help encourage more people to lead active and healthy lifestyles as part of the council&#8217;s Active North Yorkshire service, launched last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a336 million of the investment would go towards key sites in Selby, Skipton, Pickering and Whitby to improve gym facilities, overhaul swimming pools, upgrade changing rooms, improve reception areas and work on accessible pool access for people with additional needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12 other leisure sites throughout North Yorkshire we see a \u00a33 million boost to upgrade gym and fitness equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The remaining \u00a31 million, already approved at an executive meeting this month, will go towards essential repairs at two swimming pools in Richmond to ensure that they re-open to the public following a partial collapse of the ceiling in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A \u00a340 million investment scheme that aims to improve wellness facilities will be considered by members of North Yorkshire Council.
