Sheffield Crown Court has just heard that Willgoose’s killer Mohammad Umar Khan had a history of taking knives into school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, Prosecutor Richard Thyne KC told the court that Khan had a history with weapons. He said: Khan’s main defence was that he had suffered a legal loss of control at the moment he killed Harvey. The prosecution argued he had worked himself up and had intended to harm Harvey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Two witnesses gave evidence that, after the two boys had squared up to each other in a science lesson, Harvey had told them Khan had been “acting like he had a knife”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A third pupil had told the court how, moments before the stabbing: “Umar just suddenly talked about a knife. I told him to give it to me before you do something stupid. But he didn’t listen.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thyne also revealed that Khan’s mother had previously found an axe in his bag, and that he had taken weapons into school on other occasions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Harvey’s mum Caroline has been vocal in her criticms about knife crime in schools, and has called for safety measures such as knife arches to be introduced. Speaking to ITV News, she said: \u201cI\u2019m not scaremongering, but there is a big problem out there.
