South Yorkshire’s Supertram network will undergo more rail replacement works at the end of the month following big investments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The works are part of the final phase of a major programme of investment delivered throughout this year, as part of South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority’s (SYMCA) commitment to invest over \u00a3110m by 2027. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This includes upgrades to the trams, tracks, control systems and power supplies alongside the construction of a new Tram Train station at Magna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Melanie Corcoran, SYMCA\u2019s Executive Director of Transport, said: \u201cThese works are part of SYMCA\u2019s ongoing investment in Supertram. By scheduling them during the school holidays, when passenger numbers are lower, we aim to minimise disruption.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur reliable replacement bus services are scheduled to connect with trams for onward travel so people can continue to make journeys during this time.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The next stage of works will begin on Infirmary Road from Sunday 26 October to Friday 31 October and will partially affect Blue and Yellow route tram services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Infirmary Road, Langsett\/Primrose View, Bamforth Street, Hillsborough Interchange, Malin Bridge, Hillsborough Park, Leppings Lane and Middlewood tram stops will not be served during this time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mrs Corcoran added: “We\u2019re grateful to customers for their patience during this period of ambitious and essential upgrades.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This investment will help ensure the safe and reliable operation of Supertram for the millions who rely on it every year.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The works are essential to replace worn rails and ensure trams can continue to operate safely in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new rails will hopefully give passengers a better travel experience by improving comfort, reducing noise, and reducing the risk of unplanned closures on the network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The majority of the Supertram system will run as normal, but the Blue and Yellow routes will run slightly different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Blue route services will run between Halfway and Shalesmoor for Kelham Island operating up to every 12 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yellow route services will run between Meadowhall Interchange and Cathedral during the day until around 8:00pm on Monday to Friday, after 8:00pm and all day Sunday, it will extend beyond Cathedral and run between \u00a0Shalesmoor for Kelham Island and Meadowhall Interchange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
