Sheffield Wednesday took to social media on Friday to support Wear Red Day in the fight against racism.
Wear Red Day, organised by Show Racism the Red Card, is an annual anti-racism education fundraising day in the UK on October 20.
Show Racism the Red Card, is an educational charity that combats racism through events and influential role models.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), the football club said: “We’re supporting @SRTRC_England.”
Skipper Barry Bannan alongside squadmates Liam Palmer, Josh Windass, Lee Gregory, Callum Patterson, Bambo Diaby, and John Buckley were all pictured holding red cards with the message “Show Racism the Red Card”.
During the Owls’ playoff campaign in May, a spokesperson for Sheffield Wednesday condemned the racist abuse aimed at former manager Darren Moore and club owner Dejphon Chansiri.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the club said: “We distance ourselves absolutely from this kind of abhorrent behaviour.
Sheffield Wednesday stand shoulder to shoulder with Darren, the football family and wider society in condemning all forms of discrimination.”
