Residents and communities are being encouraged to take part in Doncaster’s award-winning climate action celebration event, which this year will last an entire week-long.
Starting on 27th November, communities are encouraged to keep an eye out for local events happening in their area and commit to pledges that could help build a more sustainable community, however small they may seem.
To encourage further participation, a £250 grant is available for community organisations who organise a small event, which could include an arts and crafts session, storytelling session or a communal litter pick.
The grant scheme comes after a partnership with joint 2022 Carbon Literacy Catalyst award winners, SYNETIQ, who have donated to the fund.
Elisa Caton, Sustainability Manager at SYNETIQ, said, “We’re incredibly proud to support the Doncaster Climate Action campaign. SYNETIQ are passionate about making a positive impact on the communities and local areas where we operate, so we were pleased to help Doncaster Council bring climate education and engagement activities to more people.”
The week will end in Carbon Literacy Action Day, a day dedicated to educating as many people as possible on how to lower their own carbon footprint and become as environmentally conscious as possible.
Last year, City of Doncaster Council won an award for their commitment to Carbon Literacy Action Day, which saw “pledge-boards” put up in locations around the city, encouraging residents to commit and “pledge” to one or more sustainable actions.
Cabinet member for Sustainability and Waste, Cllr Mark Houlbrook, said: “I encourage as many residents and community organisations as possible to get involved in Climate Action Week.
“Getting involved and taking a few small steps towards sustainability could open a whole new range of benefits, from reducing carbon and pollution in your community to feeling more refreshed mentally and physically. Get involved and see what chain of new habits your pledges could kickstart!”
