South Yorkshire’s Community Foundation (SYCF) has now raised over £20,000 to support those affected by Storm Babet’s flooding.
The JustGiving fundraising page was set up on 25 October in response to the unprecedented levels of flooding that took place last week.
Over 150 homes have reportedly been left damaged by the storm, with Catcliffe in Rotherham being hit hardest.
Banks on the River Rother burst following the impact of Storm Babet, leaving many businesses and families with no where to go.
Rotherham Council has been operating a rest centre at Catcliffe Memorial Hall, providing necessities such as food, clean clothes and cleaning supplies to those in need, open from 10am to 6pm every day.
The Council is also providing financial support for residents, including a £350 grant for each household and a tax exemption from 21 October until at least the end of March.
All roads in Catcliffe were reopened on 27 October, nearly a week after the Storm began, but many residents are still in the process of cleaning up their homes.
In a recent press statement, Rotherham Council said: “Flood warnings are no longer in place for the River Rother at Catcliffe and Treeton.
“All of the water has been successfully pumped away in Catcliffe. Council and Environment Agency pumps will remain in the area as a precaution.”
The Council’s Chief Executive Sharon Kemp said in a press statement: “We have seen some fantastic shows of togetherness as communities pull together to support us in minimising the impact of Storm Babet.
“This includes supporting wider efforts to pump water away from homes. A huge thank you to those who supported and continue to support at this time.”
