As the heavy wind and rain continues across South Yorkshire today, which areas will be affected by flooding as we head into the weekend?

The environment agency has currently issued a medium risk of flooding across South Yorkshire for today and Saturday, and is predicted to drop to low risk by Sunday and into Monday.

Across the region there are 20 flood warnings, with Sheffield is currently at the highest risk of flooding, with 10 warnings in place across the city alone.

The areas expected be affected in Sheffield are:

  • Blackburn Brook and Charlton Brook from Chapeltown to North Ecclesfield
  • River Don at Savile Street
  • Meers Brook at Heeley
  • River Rother at Woodhouse Mill
  • River Sheaf and Porter Brook from Granville Square to Commercial Street
  • Blackburn Brook and Charlton Brook
  • River Rother and Smithy Brook at Renishaw
  • River Sheaf at Broadfield Road and London Road South
  • River Sheaf at Priestley Street, Duchess Street and Sheaf Gardens 
  • Whiston Brook

Brook Dike at Wath Upon Dearne in Rotherham is also expected to be hit by flooding, as well as Ea Back at South Elmsall.

Doncaster is at the lowest risk of flooding, with four areas with possibility of flooding:

  • Ea Back Catchment
  • Middle River Don Catchment
  • River Dearne Catchment
  • River Went Catchment

The following roads in Sheffield have also been closed as a result of the flooding:

  • Upwell Street
  • Penny Lane
  • Fife Street
  • Beaver Hill Road
  • Mosborough Parkway into the city.

Flood barriers are also currently being used around Meadowhall to prevent any further flooding, and sand bags are being provided by Sheffield City Council across the city.
