Sheffield Wednesday’s owner Dejphon Chansiri has confirmed that the club have had their EFL embargo lifted after paying off their HMRC debt.

Players and staff have also been paid for the month, which the Thai businessman said was at risk of delay due to money that was owed to him arriving late.

In an interview with the Sheffield Star earlier in the week, Chansiri said the club needed to pay £2m worth of debt.

At the time, he called for 20,000 fans to pay £100 to save the Owls from a three-window-long transfer ban.

This was avoided by Chansiri paying the debt before the 10 November deadline.

In a statement, he said: “As I said in the interview, there are no ‘games’ here, this was a serious situation.

“I understand that some things are hard to hear, and believe me, some things are hard to say.

“The bottom line is that Sheffield Wednesday means everything to me, and I will always try my best and do my best for our club, today and tomorrow.”
