Leeds Bradford Airport has reopened today following an incident yesterday which forced a total closure.
At 1:53 PM yesterday (Oct. 20), TUI flight TOM3551 skidded off the runway as it landed, causing its emergency alert system to trigger and a full-scale response including fire and ambulance service vehicles to rush to the site.
As of 11:30 AM this morning (Oct 21.), the airport has reopened.
A spokesperson for Leeds Bradford Airport said: “There are no reported injuries from the incident and all passengers have now safely disembarked the aircraft.
“We are pleased to report that Leeds Bradford Airport is now open.
“Passengers travelling should contact their airline to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport as there will be continuing disruption.”
Emergency services assisted in evacuating passengers from the aircraft, and suspended flights were redirected to alternative nearby airports such as Manchester Airport.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service stated: “At this time, there are no reported injuries or fires.
“West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service command unit has now been stood down, and remaining crews are now assisting in evacuating all persons from the aircraft to the terminal.”
