People in Sheffield have gathered in the city to protest in support of Palestine.
Outside Sheffield City Hall, masses came together waving the Palestinian flag, with signs saying ‘Freedom for Palestine’.
This comes following major concern for the ongoing conflict and violence in Gaza.
Maxine Bowler, Vice President of the Sheffield Trade Council Union, said: “We grieve the loss of all life, but we stand squarely alongside the oppressed people of Palestine.
“Gaza, now, is like a giant open-air prison, a strip of land of 2.3 million people, and half of the population is under the age of 18 and they’re living in giant refugee camps.
“This is collective punishment for the Palestinian people and we must stand against it – it is a war crime.”
More than 2,200 people have been killed as a result of Israel’s bombing of Gaza which was in retaliation to the Hamas attack on Israel – killing more than 1,300 people last weekend.
Deana, who attended the protest and has family in Palestine, said: “Each and every one of us has a voice and we can use it to stand in solidarity with the Palestinians and their fight for justice.
“We are angry, frustrated and worried about what’s left to come but we are not powerless.”
Kairos Sheffield is a religious faith group with a network of Christians from different churches.
Jenny Richardson, who is from the group, said at the protest that they were ‘deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in the last few days’ and that they believe ‘every life is important to god’.
