A young man has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the production of approximately £35,000 worth of cannabis found in a property.
Officers from the Rotherham Central Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) have found and dismantled a property cultivating 35 cannabis plants.
A 23-year-old man is on bail pending further enquiries.
The electricity used to farm the plants was also bypassed and posed a potential fire risk to the property and neighbouring homes.
Rotherham Central NTP Inspector John Crapper said: “Cultivations like this help fund the illegal activities of organised crime gangs. We will carry on gathering further intelligence and work with partners to create safer communities.”
Officers executed a warrant at the address in the Boston Castle area of the town, as a part of anti-social behaviour awareness week.
Organised by Resolved, this week of action runs from Monday 18 November to Sunday 24 November, during which police forces show their dedication to tackling anti-social behaviour.
Insp Crapper added: “We would urge the public to report any concerns to us. Look out for signs that a property is potentially being used for illegal activity.”
South Yorkshire Police have advised that signs a property is being used to grow cannabis include:
- A heavy smell of cannabis
- Windows being blacked out
- Excessive condensation on windows
- A blocked letterbox
- Heavy use of anti-odour devices
- Visitors at unusual hours, normally only staying for a short period of time
- The property appearing as though it isn’t lived in, such as the bins not being put out.
