A rioter who supplied debris, which were hurled at police officers in Rotherham, has been jailed today for two years and three months.

Jake Turton, 38, of West Street in Darfield, Barnsley, supplied rioters with debris from the back of a vehicle he was driving. They were used as missiles to launch at officers.

Turton drove a red Ford Ranger loaded with wood planks to the large-scale violent disorder which occurred at a Holiday Inn Hotel in Manvers, Rotherham on Sunday 4th August.

The planks of wood were also used to fuel fires around the building which was housing asylum seekers.

Over 50 officers were injured, as well as harm to both police dogs and horses who attended the unruly scene.

Turton was arrested after the registration of the vehicle linked his father to the car.

He admitted it was him using his father’s car, and pleaded guilty to violent disorder at Sheffield Crown Court on 24 October.
