Emergency Services responded to a hit and run on Gleadless Road, near Gleadless Townend last night.
Several police officers were seen at the scene of the incident, and blue and white police tape was extended across the road while emergency services carried out their work. An ambulance was also seen at the location.
The collision took place near the junction with Ridgeway Road. Officers believe a dark coloured Volkswagen was involved and they’re working currently to understand the circumstances.
It’s believed that the victim was a man in his 40s. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
South Yorkshire Police are appealing for information from anyone who witnessed the collision, anyone who has footage of the collision or witnessed cars acting suspiciously in the area at the time.
They’re also asking for communities to support them in their appeal and contact the control room immediately if you see a damaged car in your area.
Road closures are currently in place on Gleadless Road and Ridgeway Road and trams are suspended.
