Liam Payne, former One Direction band member, has died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, according to police.

Here is what we know so far:

In a statement, Police said they discovered Payne’s body after an emergency crew responded to a call in the upscale neighbourhood of Palermo, in Argentina on Wednesday.

Liam Payne shot to fame at the age of just 17, when he appeared on the TV the X Factor in 2010. He was a member of the much- loved boyband One Direction, alongside band mates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik.

Two weeks prior to this incident, Liam Payne had travelled to Buenos Aires to attend former band mate Niall Horan’s performance in the Argentine capital.

According to police in Buenos Aires, officers at the scene were initially responding to reports “of an aggressive man who may have been under the effects of drugs and alcohol”.

When they arrived at the hotel, officials were told that people had heard a loud sound in an interior courtyard. Soon after, they discovered the body there. A police investigation has been launched.

Emergency medical services director Alberto Crescenti told local media that Payne had suffered “serious injuries” and that an autopsy will be carried out.

Mr Crescenti declined to answer any questions about the circumstances of the fall from the balcony.

Liam Payne had posted on Snapchat just hours before the incident, saying: “It’s a lovely day here in Argentina.”

Once the news broke of Liam’s incident, tearful fans began gathering outside the Buenos Aires hotel, where the death took place.
