This gave him the trait of diligence.

He first made his breakthrough when he made his first professional appearance for Santos in 2009. This started his career and put him om the map for his amazing comeback of the Ginga style.

In 2013 Neymar moved to Barcelona fc for an astonishing 57.1 million euros. This skyrocketed his recognition through the roof, transforming him into one of the flashiest stylish and one of the most well-known names in all of football, his career has inspired millions upon millions of children all over the world living in poverty to believe in their own abilities.

Whilst he was in Barcelona, he has acquired 103 goals and assists, some of which were getting millions of views and inspiring many people across the world to retry his amazing goals.

Neymar has created so much influence on the beautiful game. He has been picked for this 2026 FIFA World Cup; this is a bit of a controversial topic as some might say he should get picked but some may say that he is only there for the name and as a mascot. At the moment Neymar is playing for his childhood club Santos, this is where he has said he will stay until retirement.

There are rumors circulating that he will retire after this current world cup. There has been no comment from Neymar about this topic, so there aren’t any confirmed plans from the Brazilian to date.

At the moment Neymar is suffering from a grade 2 calf strain. This has caused him to miss the first two world cup games and is hopefully supposed to return to play in the Scotland vs Brazil game.

Leeds at the World Cup – by Harriet N

Leeds United has four players currently playing in the world cup.

These players are:

· Brenden Aaronson – selected to play for the United States squad. Involved in fixtures against the Netherlands, Tunisia, and Sweeden.

Over the years, 29 players that were contracted to Leeds United have appeared in the world cup, showcasing the club’s talent. Leeds world cup legacy spans across almost 7 decades, from Wilbur Cush in 1958, to the 2026 World Cup participants.

The first Leeds player at a world cup was at Wilbur Cush for Northen Ireland in 1958. In 1966, England won the world cup, with Leeds defenders Jack Charlton and Norman Hunter lifting the trophy.

Vozinha – the man who is saving Cape Verde – by Charlie M

Vozinha (whose real name is Josimar José Évora Dias) at 40 years old this man stands tall and saves His team for the mighty Spain everyone’s favorites. Due to this man’s courageous keeping skills. This man acts like a tank to any ball coming towards him he does not get affected by whoever strikes the ball or how hard it is struck. Everyone doubted this team, but I believe that this player could be one of the most underrated and best keepers about. Anyone would be silly not to sign this man.

South Africa – by Seth W

South Africa Vs South Korea Match Gallery shows how South Africa are coming together as team compared to their first games like Mexico with a 2-0 loss and 2 red cards. This shows they have figured out how to play as a team a lot better and are now through to the round of 16 as they just got through the group stages.

Vozinha – by Ivan P

Country: Cabo Verde (Africa)

Age: 40 (Oldest in the team)

Team: Chaves (Liga Portugal 2)

At 40 years and 12 days old, he became the oldest player to feature in a nation’s first FIFA World Cup match – breaking the record that had been set by Curaçao’s Eloy Room just a day earlier – and was also the ninth-oldest player to ever feature in the tournament. He also became the third-oldest goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in a World Cup match and, in the process, moved into second place among goalkeepers over 40 years old for most saves in a World Cup match on record.

His Team played against Spain and the score was 0:0 (8.5 rate)

Drew with Urugay 2:2 (4.5 rate)

Won 2 friendly matches 3:0 and 3:0

First time in World Cup as a country

Matheus Cunha – by Rory M

Matheus Cunha began his career at Cortiba FC in Brazil from 2013 to 2017. He played as a forward known for his pace, agility and ability to create scoring opportunities for his club.

He was born in Joao Pessoa which is located in the northeast of Brazil. He had massive inspiration from players such as Ronaldinho through his skills and ability to keep ahold of the ball.

In 2018 he signed for RB Leipzig, which helped his career by catching the attention of European clubs. This later caught the eye of European giants Athletico Madrid in 2021. His performances dropped from the talent he showed at previous clubs as he only has 6 goals and 6 assists across 2 seasons. This led to him signing for Wolves in 2023 where he showed his talent and flair across the 38 games by scoring 12 goals and assisting 4. In the 24/25 season his talent excelled by achieving 17 goals and 6 assists in 36 games across all competitions. From this season at Wolves, He signed for English giants Manchester united where he had a g/a of 14 in 33 matches in the 25/26 season.

Cunha had a rough start to the 2026 world cup as he wasn’t played for Brazil’s first game vs Morocco which resulted in a 1-1 draw. However, in Brazil’s second game of the world cup Cunha made his debut and scored a brace against Haiti which led to a 3-0 win.

England – by Patrick M

Throughout their world cup history, the three lions have been famously unable to achieve the results they deserved famously in 1966 they won their first world cup. However, since then, although throughout man tournaments they have failed to seal the deal and find the success they deserve.

Perfectly described by the famous song 3 lions released in 1996, the squad has been struggling with not being brave enough or interesting, leading to an underwhelming sheet of results. As the song says in 1996 it was 30 years of pain however their new hope manager Thomas Tuchel will be unwilling to let that figure hit 60.Tuchel has completely reworked the squad leaving out some notable names for example Maguire palmer and Foden however the nations doubts were averted after a 4 2 win against Croatia when the team played with confidence and skill leading to four tremendous goals. The country was revived in hope by the new England.

However much of the nation was dismayed after England suffered a draw against world 65th Ghana, after they deployed a frustrating low block strategy against the world number 4. Frustrated England launched a desperate round of attacks leading to harry Kane skying an easy shot, However England was lucky to not concede a penalty after Ezri khans made a risky challenge in the box against Prince Kwabena Adu which could very easily have been seen as a penalty in the last few minutes of the game.

Reeling from their subpar performance Tuchel will be trying to change the team to avoid another goalless draw, there is speculation that Saka and Rashford will finally have done enough to start against Panama. Anthony Gordon has faced criticism from the media and fans after he failed to perform up front in one v ones, letting down the team on the left wing so he will likely be replaced.

However, considering that Panama is grunted eliminated and England is grunted qualified with a goal difference of minus 2 Panama is likely to be demoralized and angry. On the other hand, with nothing to lose Panama can play more aggressively which better suits England’s play style as they struggled against ghantas defensive plays. This shows how England probably won’t be kept to a draw again as moving past the group stage it is very unlikely that any more teams will utilize such a strategy like Ghana did against England. This demonstrates that England can still win the world cup 2026.

If England top group L it is likely they will go on to play Portugal, DR Congo or Uzbekistan. However, with minus 7 goal difference Uzbekistan can be almost ruled out.

Cape Verde – by Tobias W

Cape Verde is one of many teams in the world cup, they have unexpectedly put on a great performance. In the past Cape Verde have struggled to even qualify for the world cup as Fifa prioritized certain teams such as, Brazil, Argentina, England, Spain, France. Ryan Mendes, the top scorer, carries the composure of every player in this squad.

personally, I think Cape Verde can progress throughout the world cup, they could have potential to make top 10. This is because they put up a good battle against Spain, one of the best teams in the world cup. Cape Verde are progressing in their gameplay, cm creating chances, defenders keeping attackers on their toes. Their game against Spain will be remembered as the unexpected twist, the goalkeeper has been blowing up on social media for his immense performance, keeping attackers at bay.

Cape Verde will face many obstacles along the world cup journey. Cape Verde will need to try their best to push towards top 10. An interesting fact about Cape Verde is they made history by narrowly qualifying for FIFA world cup, becoming one of the smallest countries ever to reach the tournament.

Hydration breaks – by Alfie W

hydration breaks are a new part of the structure of the world cup in USA/Mexico/Canada 2026

These hydration breaks happen after every 22 minutes and last for 3 minutes. I personally think this ruins the momentum of that match. Often you can see the players shaking their heads in disappointment as they know that these hydration breaks are just a way to run adverts. Often the players barely even hydrate and just have a team talk.

FIFA stated in December last year these stops were due to high temperatures but in the lats few games it has been raining and a hydration break probably wasn’t needed.

FOX stated that the ads generated 250-350 million dollars for broadcasters from the ads alone. This really goes to show how these hydration breaks are just a way to generate hundreds of millions of dollars.

in one of the recent matches England v Ghana the temperature was 20 degrees which is not really hot enough to need a hydration break it was also raining at the time.

Fans are booing at these hydration breaks as they are understandably angry as it ruins the flow.

Rashford’s redemption – by Oscar B

Rashford, after bouncing team from team to team on loan and suffering the pressure from past England failures, has able to make his mark in the world cup 2026 with a goal against Croatia. But before we delve into Marcus Rashford’s redemption we should talk about what brought him to his national dream. Born 31 October 1997 in Fallowfield, he bore a childhood of crushing poverty. He and his 4 brothers struggled for basic necessities like food and relied on the mercy of charities and benefits. You might be thinking, how could a poor child like this turn out to be a professional football player, even making it on the national stage?

Beginning his footballing journey at the age of 5, he began his venture with his local football club Fletcher moss Rangers. And he made himself known. His exceptional talent quickly stood out and was noticed by one of the greatest teams in not only England but in the entire football world, Manchester United. This was a dream come true for Rashford as he had been a lifelong fan, and this was his real golden ticket to breaking through and be in the public’s eye. His joining of Manchester United wasn’t all about his footballing dreams however, it was also in an attempt to relive the struggles of his family hardships as his mother pushed to get him into the club’s Schoolboy Scholar Scheme at age 11 in an attempt to gain special catering including free meals.

Jumping forward a few years Marcus Rashford was firmly in place in his development as a football player. He wasn’t like most breakthrough Star-boys and relied on steady and disciplined progress unlike the meteoric, awe-inspiring displays of skill and promise other prodigies showed.

Yan Diomande – the journey, from nothing to everything – by Rocco G-B

Yan Diomande (born 14th November 2006) the 19-year-old Ivorian professional footballer plays left wing for German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig. However, in the 2025/2026 season he played 36 times scoring 13 goals while assisting 10 times.

Born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast Yan Diomande searched for a professional career which wasn’t an option in his hometown. His golden ticket to professional football joining Spanish side Leganes, scoring his first goal versus Espanol helping them achieve victory vs the side from Catalunya. 20 million euros. RB Leipzig paid the price for the up-and-coming Ivorian star. His flair was worth every penny. Soaring in Rb Leipzig’s DFB-Pokal game, lighting up the left-hand side in a 4-2 victory over Bundesliga 2 side SV Sandhausen. This was his breakthrough. Then his first Bundesliga goal came on October 25th. He made the pitch his own as they thumped Augsburg 6-0. As he continued to own the Bundesliga disaster struck. His role model. His best friend. His little sister was taken from him. They’re joined journey was over. But not for him! He continued to do it for her.

His daring skills leave the viewers on the edge of their seats leaving jaws dropped. His African flair left defenders for dead. Eye-catching pace and jaw dropping agility he made the public viewers have one name in their mouth. Yan Diomande!

His amazing season in the Bundesliga where he scored 12 goals assisting 10 times. This has made him one of the most wanted names in world. At just 19 teams like Liverpool are putting in colossal bids at £90million and above. He made it. Just without his companion.

His amazing skills has led to him being selected as a crucial part of the Ivory Coast’s 26-man national squad at the 2026 Fifa World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA. Where in his first game he received player of the match vs Ecuador. He continued his form in their entertaining 2-1 loss to Germany where he ruled the left wing leaving all fans and neutrals thinking about the quality he possesses. Will he do the same vs Curacao?

Neymar Jr – by Ryan L

Neymar Jr recently made his first appearance of the Fifa World Cup 2026 for Brazil National Team. His most successful periods of his career were spent at Barcelona from 2013-2017 where he scored 114 goals in 197 appearances which is incredibly impressive due to him being a left winger or cam, this means he averages 0.5 goals per game.

He was previously called up for 3 world cups and scored 8 goals in 13 games in his world cup career. However, this year following his return to Santos FC in Brazil there was doubts that he would be called up for his fourth world cup in North America. His season at Santos FC was riddled with injuries. He picked up 5 injuries leading up to the end of the season. However, one injury could have ended up being the most important injury of his career. His family were fulfilled with joy as Carlo Ancelotti announced Neymar was in the squad. The Dutch icon was one of the most influential figures in the game, and his impact is still clear today.

The three-time Ballon d’Or winner grew up in Amsterdam in a working-class neighbourhood. His father, who died when Cruyff was 12, encouraged him to play football. The Ajax and Barcelona legend used the sport to honour his father, and more than that, he did so by transforming the game.

Cruyff left his mark on the sport not only with his ideas but also with his sensational on-field abilities. The tricky attacking midfielder conjured several moments that took fans’ breath away. The ‘Cruyff Turn’ at the 1974 World Cup and his ‘impossible’ acrobatic goal for Barca against Atletico Madrid in the same year were two of many. Even though his prowess was still noticed during his time at Bournemouth, his transfer to Manchester City became known world-wide. The pressure may have got better of other players like when Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid, but not Antoine; he used this pressure to ignite his versatility and dexterity.

Semenyo made his international debut for Ghana in 2022. He was selected for the FIFA World Cup in 2022 and 2026, and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. Either Spain have lost their amazing skills, or Cape Verde has evolved and are threatening all of the bigger and popular teams, later in the rounds. Spain qualified undefeated from UEFA Group E, winning five matches and drawing one, scoring 21 goals and conceding only two giving Spanish fans a huge boost in confidence.

Spain’s combination of tactical discipline, creative midfield, and emerging young talent positions them as a serious contender for the 2026 World Cup, with expectations to reach at least the semi-finals if key players remain fit, this shows that Spain is definitely one of the biggest contenders in the world cup and has a gigantic chance of reaching semi-finals or even the final game to win the world cup.

Simone Biles – by Lila T

Silone Biles is an American gymnast; she is 29 years old born on the 14th of March 1997 and the most decorated gymnast in history. His earnings are structured to minimize tax liabilities, allowing him to retain a significant portion of his income. these figures highlight Mbappé’s status as one of the highest-paid footballers in the world.

On November 26, 2025, Kylian Mbappé scored four goals, including the second-fastest hat trick in Champions League history, during a match against Olympiacos. He netted three goals in just 6 minutes and 42 seconds, leading Real Madrid to a 4-3 comeback victory. This performance not only showcased his incredible talent but also helped his team break a three-game winless streak, emphasizing his importance to the squad.

Kylian Mbappé was born on December 20, 1998, in Paris, France, and raised in Bondy, a multicultural suburb known for its strong sporting culture and challenging social environment His father, Wilfried Mbappé, originally from Cameroon, was a football coach and sports agent, while his mother, Fayza Lamari, of Algerian Kabyle descent, was a former professional handball player and sports manager . Mbappé also has an older adopted brother, Jirès Kembo Ekoko, a professional footballer, who served as an early role model. bond located in the Seine-Saint-Denis district, is a working-class area with a large immigrant population and limited economic resources, but it is recognized as a fertile ground for athletic talent. The local football culture emphasized small-sided, high-intensity games on hard courts, which helped young players develop speed, agility, and quick decision-making. Despite occasional social unrest, including the 2005 riots, Mbappé’s family ensured he remained focused on football. He began playing football at AS Bondy at the age of six, under the guidance of his father, who coached him and instilled discipline and technical skills.

Harry Kane – by Maisy R

Harry Kanes journey is a masterclass in resilience. Transforming from an Arsenal youth academy reject and a lower league loaned into England’s all-time record goalscorer and one of the most prolific strikers in European history.

Harry Kane was born in Leytonstone, London and grew up in the East London/Essex border areas of Walthamstow and Chingford. His passion for football started in the local parks of Walthamstow leading him to play for local Ridgeway Rovers at the age of six. He briefly joined the Arsenal youths academy at age eight but was released less than a session later.

Harry Kane stands out because he is two elite players in one, a lethal goalscorer and a master midfielder. He tricks defenders by dropping deep to create brilliant passes, then sprints into the box to score perfectly with either foot or his head. This recognition towards Harry isn’t as noticed, whereas with more famous footballers such as Messi and Ronaldo with more ‘cool’ tricks. His genius football brain allows him to read the game steps ahead of everyone else, all while working tirelessly to track back and defend.

Yan Diomande – by Lucas S

From Ronaldo growing up in poverty to the elite title of the world’s top goalscorer; every player has a backstory. From the slums of Abidjan to the greatest stage in the world, Yan Diomande’s dream was powered by his sister’s legacy.

At young age of nineteen, Yan Diomande has already lived as story that feels larger than life. Born in Abidjan, Ivory coast, 2006 Yan had a passion; and that passion was for football. Ever since a young age, he yearned for the roaring oceans of crowd filling stadiums. Like many, Diomande had an idol; an icon and an almost Godlike figure that he looked up to. And that player was Ronaldo.

Diomandes lust for football and talented ability landed him at many English academies, but all were unsuccessful. Then after wanting to give up on his dreams of a professional footballer, His ever long image – he had one last catalyst. His sister. But the loss of his sister, Roxane, when he was still a boy, became a defining moment. In interviews, he has spoken openly about how her memory fuels his drive: “Everything I do, it’s for her.”

He landed his first professional contract at RB Leipzig. From the slums of Adibijan to the greatest stage in the world, Yan Diomandes dream had been fulfilled. Now getting to have the record-breaking price tag of £100M, he had proved all of the doubters and club rejections wrong, not only that – had proved himself wrong. He did all of this, for her, for Roxane.

England squad – by Victor G

England’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, managed by Thomas Tuchel, includes 26 players with a blend of seasoned internationals and first-time tournament participants. The team opens Group L against Croatia on June 17 in Dallas, followed by matches against Ghana and Panama in the United States

As the squad came out it came to a bit of a shock to some people as many players that should have been or have the ability to be in the squad wasn’t picked by Thomas Tuchel.

Thomas Tuchel picked a squad with a wide range of different players like Harry Kane who is a striker that likes to drop in and get the ball and be able spray it out to the wingers so they can attack with width. But he has also picked Ollie Watkins, and he is a striker who likes to get a threw ball and drive with it and be able to get his shot off early. This shows the difference within the squad and the way that Thomas Tuchel knows exactly how the players in his squad know how to play.

But he also left some key players out like Cole Palmer, Gibbs white, and Phil Foden. This was a big shock due to the mass of creativity that they all brought to the game. The real question is that if they did get picked would they have helped them be able to get better result against Ghana and give us a clear path into the world cup knockouts.

As the game started for Ghana V.S England we didn’t look comfortable and the chemistry didn’t seem to be there. As the game did carry on, we could really see the practice that Ghana put in with defending as their attack wasn’t as strong, but the England squad wasn’t able to find a way through.

The England team faced a challenging match against Ghana in the 2026 World Cup Group L, resulting in a goalless draw. The match took place at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, and was marked by England’s inability to convert their chances into goals despite dominating the game. Key moments included Harry Kane missing a late chance and England’s goalless performance, which sparked discussions about the team’s lack of cutting edge in the final third. The match was a test of both teams’ World Cup credentials, with England looking to maintain their momentum and Ghana aiming to secure qualification for the knockout stages.

In my opinion I think that Thomas Tuchel picked a good squad, but I think he could have done with Gibbs white instead of Curtis Jones because overall Gibbs White is a better player. Gibbs white impacting games with goals, assists, pressing, and defensive work during the period closest to selection. That gives him a different argument from players who have stronger status but less recent output. This again just shows that Gibbs White would generally be a better player. Even though Curtis Jones is an amazing football player I think that Gibbs White is at a much higher level.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – by Archie H

Aaron wan bissaka is an outstanding fullback who previously played for crystal palace and then made a tremendous move to one of the big 6, Manchester united after just about 130 appearances for the club making outstanding tackles and really helping them when needed most in the right back position, west ham later made the deal to sign Aaron for 15 million pounds to play for them on a seven year contract. This is Aaron’s story summarized highlighting his tenacity on the field and drive to be the best to prevent goals being scored by opponents and doing what he does best in that fullback position.

We know Aaron has this desire to inspire others and improve teams through this street interview during his time at Manchester united with a fan very passionate towards Aaron and how he performs for the club: the interview is below.

However, what this story is about is the sudden controversy in Aaron’s nationality regarding the world cup squads. Due to previous selection, in a recent match myself which was Dr Congo against Portugal I came to the realization that Aaron was in the squad which I did not recognize until now due to through things like FIFA and nationalities being shown in Manchester united lineup in previous years being shown of his nationality as English. However, when I came to ask others and gather other data regarding peoples known knowledge of this, I realized not many people knew he was from Congo DR.

Aaron Wan-Issaka’s decision to represent the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) was influenced by his pride in his roots and his upbringing in a Congolese community. Despite his potential for England, Wan-Bissaka felt it was the right time to make the switch to DR Congo, where his parents hail from. His choice reflects a deep-seated sense of belonging and identity, as he grew up in a Congolese household and is proud to represent his country. The delay in joining DR Congo was intentional, as Wan-Bissaka wanted to wait for the right moment to make such a significant decision. This will have been because Aaron, as now a 28-year-old has been waiting in his time across playing football for the call up for the England squad due to him have played in the u21 squad and participated in the euro finals in 2019. Due to England being such a large team and high-ranking nationality we can see how he may have waited for the call up. However, in some ways his being a few years of retirement and not playing national football, he boldly made the decision to play for Congo DR.

Pupils from Holmfirth High School in West Yorkshire visited the University of Sheffield in June 2026.

[22

post-442","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-holmfirth-school-visit
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.9 -
