Police in this region have released a statement to remind people of the dangers of firework misuse.
As Bonfire Night approaches parents have been asked to talk to their children about the danger of playing with fireworks, especially in public.
Cl Carson, who is leading the Dark Nights Operation, said: “Unfortunately, we have seen some incidents where officers have been targeted with fireworks. Take this as a reminder, we take a zero-tolerance approach to dangerous behaviour shown towards our officers and any offenders will be brought to justice.”
SYP say that over the coming weeks, patrols will increase in key areas in an attempt to discourage firework misuse in public.
Cl Lee Carson also said: “When you are out celebrating Halloween or watching the fireworks, we please ask that you are aware of your surroundings.
“We know that firework displays are attractive, but they can also be dangerous if not handled correctly.”
If you have any information about fireworks being let off illegally, you can report it to South Yorkshire Police on 101 or through their online portal; you can access the portal here: www.southyorks.police.uk/contact-us/report-something/
