Sheffield Wednesday have been placed under a transfer embargo over unpaid money to HMRC.

The Owls will not be able to register any additional players to their squad until the embargo is lifted.

The embargo was confirmed on the EFL website: “Sheffield Wednesday – regulation 17.3 amounts due to HMRC.”

Wednesday currently sit bottom of the EFL Championship and are in desperate need of a result in tomorrow’s grudge match against Rotherham United.

They have just three points from 13 matches and are the only club in the division yet to win this season.

They will entertain the Millers, a side also struggling for form, at 1pm on Sunday at Hillsborough.
