A Yellow weather warning has been issued for tonight and Tuesday after the Met Office expects heavy rain that will spread across South Yorkshire starting tonight at 1.00am.
The Met Office said: “An area of rain is likely to spread northwards overnight with heavy downpours, particularly affecting some eastern facing hills”.
It is expected that Tuesday’s weather may lead to further flooding’s and that people should expect; difficult driving conditions, cancellations of bus and train services, and homes being flooded in South Yorkshire.
The downpours are following the Storm Babet floods that have affected local areas in South Yorkshire, and led to 120 homes being evacuated in Catcliffe, Rotherham.
Councillor Chris Read, Leader of Rotherham Council said: “I have seen for myself the impact and devastation this has had on people and their families, and my heart goes out to those affected by the floods across the borough, including Catcliffe.”
Emergency accommodation and hotels have been provided for residents in Catcliffe for the past three days, and Catcliffe Memorial Hall has set up a rest centre where people have been given food and shelter since the evacuations started.
Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council have stated that the flooding in Catcliffe is reducing, as the Environment Agency has introduced pumps to drain the water, and are currently assessing the water levels.
However residents are being told not to return to their houses as it is still unsafe, and that Rotherham Council will contact them on when they can go home.
