Rotherham Market will officially launch a revamp plan as funds continue to be received.

This plan will provides more complete and diversified services to residents of the local area and surrounding villages and towns.

It is reported that the reconstruction will be completed in 2025 when Rotherham residents will have a new large indoor shopping mall, a restaurant street, and a multi-facilities public service and rest platform. The latest market is also expected to include a library area.

Due to a series of problems with inflation and rising prices, the cost of the project has been high. It has reached £31 million and is expected to rise.

The project, which Rotherham Council has approved, has received part-cash support from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, as well as improvements from the Future High Street Fund.

Saghir Alam, Councillor of Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC), explained that the market’s redevelopment is an important part of Rotherham’s future.

“It not only provides residents with a more comprehensive and diversified entertainment, leisure, and shopping platform. It is also a brand-new opportunity that can attract more attention and bring vitality to the city.”

The revamp project will be run by Henry Boot Construction, working with Rotherham Council to design the development outline.

Amy Stanbridge, director of Henry Boot Construction, said in the interview: “We are looking forward to it becoming a new source of pride for Rotherham.”

She believes that despite the possibility of further cost increases, the plan still has huge potential benefits for Rotherham.

The initial site for the market is Eastwood Lane, Rotherham, and may be expanded following official construction.
