A South Yorkshire mental health worker and semi-professional boxer is planning to run from Sheffield to Leeds in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Ciro Theaker (pictured) will take on the 55km run in order to raise funds for the children’s hospital after he sadly lost his own daughter.
Mr Theaker said: “I lost my daughter a few years ago, at the time I worked in paediatrics and had helped so many families with their children but felt a lot of guilt that I couldn’t do anything for my own so I always vowed to try and help as many families as I could.
“GOSH is an amazing cause and we are all happy to be able to help support families especially at Christmas.“
The run will begin at 3am at Sheffield station on 9 December.
Mr Theaker is aiming to arrive in Leeds between 2pm and 3pm and has arranged the event as a part of the charity day, run by the women on his ward at work.
He said: “It is for a good cause and extremely hard to complete. It makes the children, staff and families at GOSH feel better as well as the ladies on our ward knowing they’re making a difference. “
Great Ormond Street Hospital sees around 750 seriously ill children every day and relies on charitable support to keep running.
