A Yorkshire charity will be running a training day in Sheffield to better equip volunteers in the fight against domestic abuse.

IDAS, Independent Domestic Abuse Services, (logo pictured) will be training up ‘IDAS Champions’, who’s role it is to educate and raise awareness of domestic abuse at talks and events as well as distributing IDAS leaflets.

The event will be held on 5 December at Scotia works on Leadmill Road.

Carmel Offord, event organiser, said: “Often, people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence lack the knowledge and confidence of where to go to get help and support. IDAS Champions are volunteers who seek out opportunities to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the services we provide so that more people can get support if they need it. Champions choose how much time to give and which activities to undertake.

“Each Champion has a unique set of skills, experience, networks, and local knowledge. We hope that Champions will draw on this so that we can throw a lifeline to those people who are experiencing domestic abuse and let them know that they are not alone.”

The training will run from 2pm until 4pm and covers important topics such as responding to disclosures of domestic abuse. For more details, visit the charity’s website: https://courses.idas.org.uk/training-event/idas-champions-training-in-person-sheffield/
