A man who brutally assaulted another man by stamping on his head and punching him has been sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court earlier this week.
Brad Spencer, 30, left his victim in a pool of his own blood after inflicting the injuries after an argument turned physical in Stocksbridge, Sheffield on 10 January this year.
Spencer, of Pot House Lane, pushed the victim onto a sofa before pinning him up against a wall by the throat.
He then went on to attack by stomping on his head in a prolonged and unchallenged assault.
He was arrested and charged with attempted murder the following day.
In court, he pleaded guilty to section 18 GBH and was given an 18-year sentence, comprising 13 years imprisonment.
He was also given by the judge a five-year extended license after deeming him to be a ‘dangerous offender’.
Detective Constable Arron Connolly, investigating, said: “Spencer’s attack was senseless, brutal and utterly horrific. His victim is lucky to have survived and he has been left with long-lasting, life-changing injuries.
“We were able to arrest Spencer within hours of the attack and he is now thankfully behind bars for a very long time. His actions were not only savage but cowardly as he attempted to flee the scene of the crime with no regard or understanding of the serious injuries he had just inflicted.
“I hope Spencer’s sentencing can offer his victim and their family some sort of closure as they attempt to move forward with their lives.”
