Rotherham hosted Reclaim the Night event again at Ministry Pavilion on Thursday 23 November 2023.

The event was first launched in 2015 to celebrate the importance of female empowerment and explore the issues faced by women in the town. People got the opportunity to enjoy free refreshments provided by the organizers and listened to speeches at the ministry hall.

Councillor Emma Hoddinott, one of Reclaim the Night’s organisers, said: ” Part of the event is to meet in the town centre and ‘reclaim the streets’ to highlight how they should be safe for all. I hope people will be able to join an inspiring and informative evening.”

The theme of this event this year is “A Safe Night Out”and residents from Rotherham were invited to walk through the city centre and finally gather at the event venue in anticipation of the inspiring speeches.

Rotherham Government said the purpose of starting a collective march in the city center was to highlight “how they should be safe for all”.

The event started at 6pm on Thursday, with people needed to gather in front of the Ministry Pavilion on High Street to begin the march, with free parking available in all council-owned car parks and on-street parking.

It was organized in partnership with Flux Rotherham and South Yorkshire Violence Reduction.
