A 59 year old man was arrested after drugs and wads of cash were found in his home in Rotherham.

A warrant was executed on 14 November to search the defendants house in Goosebutt Street, of Parkgate.

Police found £1,000 in cash stuffed under his sofa alongside quantities of drugs, such as 1.5 ounces of cannabis.

The 59 year old Michael Parkin, was  charged with possession of a controlled Class B drug.

The arrest was part of the Operation Sceptre, which is a national week-long campaign to combat knife and violent crimes across South Yorkshire.

It saw a number of warrants, stop searches and other similar activities take place.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Barnes said: “This warrant has enabled us to take harmful drugs out of circulation.

“We know drugs ruin local communities and can leave people feeling unsafe in their own homes. This is something we will not tolerate, which has resulted in drugs being removed from the streets of Rotherham.”

Parkin has been released on bail and is set to appear in Sheffield Magistrates Court on January 3, 2024.
