A 30-year-old Sheffield man has been jailed today after being found guilty on sexual assault and rape charges involving a child.

Sam Chetty, refused to admit his crimes by pleading not guilty, but the jury at Sheffield Crown Court found him guilty following a four-day trial.

The court and the jury heard horrific details of how Mr Chetty had raped the boy on multiple occasions, with the abuse beginning when the boy was six years old.

The jury found Mr Chetty guilty of multiple sex offences, including four counts of rape of a boy under 13 years old and two counts of assaulting a boy under 13 years old by penetration. Mr Chetty was also found guilty of two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a boy under 13.

Investigating officer, Amy Todd, said: “Chetty has put his victim through years of trauma following the abuse he committed. It is only right he serves this time behind bars. The victim has shown great bravery during our investigation and I hope this sentence gives him the justice he needs to move on with his life.”

Please remember that victims of sexual offences are provided with lifelong anonymity by law and it is a criminal offence to name them or share any information which may lead to them being identified.
