The charity fire walk organized by Sheffield Churches Council for Community Care (SCCCC) was held in Stockbridge, Sheffield on the evening of 28 October.

Even through the light drizzle, staff were still adding firewood to keep the flame burning. About 20 people gathered around to watch the challenge.

Natalie Clarkson, 33, one of the challengers participating in the fire walk, said: “ This is so exciting! I have to say it feels amazing to walk on fire.

“This is my first time doing such a challenge, and this is how scary and brave it got!”

To fit the Halloween theme, many challengers at the scene wore their costumes, with many stopping and watching.

Mary Laufer, 68, one of the audience, said: ” We didn’t know about this event, I just came here with my grandson for shopping. Then he suddenly took my hand very excitedly and said ‘See Granny, there is someone walking on flames here!

“These people are brave, then I think what’s more important is that they are helping the elderly through this activity, which is great.”

The crew continued to add more charcoal to make the fire more intense, excitement building well into the evening.

Sponsored by Medequip Community Equipment Service, the SCCCC has been able to host many challenge activities before, raising money for care and elderly groups.
