As cases of Covid-19 have ‘risen significantly’, Sheffield Teaching Trust have asked that all patients wear masks again in hospitals.
This also applies to staff, visitors, and careers who will need to wear masks in all clinical areas if they are accompanying the patient.
The new rule began on 20 October 2023, and is a step to try to reduce the Covid cases that have been increasing in South Yorkshire.
Coronavirus Statistics show that there have been 16 deaths in Yorkshire and the Humber in the last week from the virus.
Professor Chris Morley, Chief Nurse for Sheffield NHS Foundation Trust said: “Currently we have one of the highest levels of COVID-19 cases in the community since the last peak in January.
“At Sheffield Teaching Hospitals for example we have gone from single figures of patients with COVID to over 50 in 10 days.”
Sheffield hospitals ask patients to sanitise their hands before visiting, keep their distance from others, and avoid visiting if you have symptoms such as a: cough, flu or fever.
The Sheffield Teaching Trust website states: “If you are eligible for a Covid-19 and/ or Flu vaccine, please consider getting yourself protected which in turn helps reduce the risk of transmission.”
