Residents in Beighton, Sheffield has been enduring “unbearable” noise from high-speed car racing even after reporting to the police numerous times.

Clare Barnes, 40, a trainee primary school teacher, and her family have been affected by the extreme noise pollution since August, 2023 and no actions have been taken.

Clare has two daughters, a 12 and an 8-year-old.

The mum of two said, “You can hear the noise over the TV inside the house with all the windows shut, and when you have an 8-year-old trying to go to bed, it is unbearable.”

Clare said the noise lasts from 8 p.m. to midnight, even to the early morning hours, like 2 – 3 a.m., normally from Thursday to Sunday and Sunday night is often the worst.

Clare said that, “They often race their cars in Drakehouse retail park and I can see the tyre marks there next to Wickes.

“There is a 30 mph speed limit and it is a car park, you are not supposed to be driving around, making doughnuts anyway.

Clare said that there are normally about four to five cars with “a bunch of twenty-something”

The 40-year-old said, “The gate of the park was shut for the last few decades, but now since it has been opened, it is driving us insane.

“I have reported it to the police for their anti-social behaviour and dangerous driving almost every night since August with my neighbours. The police told us that they were trying but they couldn’t force the park owner to lock the park.”

Clare has also contacted the Beighton Councillor Ian Horner and the C said that he will get it sorted but because it is private land they can’t enforce certain procedures.

The mum of two is also concerned about the forthcoming industrial plan that is going to take place in the area, she said that “Since we already got enough hassle as it is without any additional noise in the area, if the construction begins, it will be constant and the industrial unit will be working throughout the night as well, we are going to fight.”

In the Beighton Community Group, people have shown their concerns.
