On 21 October, a large-scale protest rally in support of Palestine was held in front of the City Hall in the centre of Sheffield. It was the fourth large-scale Palestine-related protest event in Sheffield this month.

Hundreds of people gathered in the City Hall Square, holding high the Palestinian flag. A huge Palestinian flag was also placed on the steps before the City Hall.
The theme of the protest was “Freedom for Palestine,” and once again expressed dissatisfaction with Israel and the inaction of the Sunak government.

A protester stood by the microphone said: “We gather here, as we stood at the train station last week, to support Palestinian freedoms and rights in Sheffield. ”
Banners and slogans accusing Israel of atrocities and supporting Palestine could be seen everywhere.
Unlike in the past, this rally received support from many socialists, led by the South Yorkshire Marxist Society.
John Edward, 27, a communist from Sheffield, said in an interview at the scene: “In terms of the similarities between communism and this protest, I think it is consistent with the idea of the International Brigades.

“We are all gathered here to oppose the aggressive hegemony. This is also why we stand in solidarity with the Palestinians – to say no to war.”
Chants of “Palestine will be free”, national flags and volume of people encouraged passer’s by to join.
