An anti-Israel war demonstration organised and hosted by the Sheffield Palestinian Coalition was held in Sheffield city centre today.
The theme of the demonstration was “A Crime Against Humanity”, protesting against Israel’s series of war actions and attacks from the past couple of days.
Aziz Alshaibi, 25, a Palestinian who is living in Sheffield and taking part in the demonstration said: “Like what we said on the paper, it is time to demand Palestine to impose sanctions against Israel.
“We named this action ‘From Gaza with love.” Many Palestinians have been killed, the capital Gaza is under attack. More people should know about Israel’s crimes.”
Nearly a hundred people gathered at the scene, waving Palestinian flags and holding various protest slogans such as “Stop Arming” and “WE ARE NOT SUB-HUMANS.”
Members of the Sheffield Labour Party were seen arriving to express their support for the Palestinian community. John Hurst, 63, a Sheffield Labour supporter, said: “Palestine is our friend and I think it’s our duty to join them – no one should have to endure the crimes of war.”
Sheffield City Councillors said in a statement on the situation between Palestine and Israel on the same day that Sheffield is a city of Sanctuary, which was made up by many communities, any acts of terror were condemned.
City Councillors also called on each sides to regard peace as their primary concept and consider all civilians in the two countries affected by the war.
