Sheffield United’s Chris Basham has this weekend done serious damage to his lower leg during their game away at Fulham.

The fixture was paused for ten minutes whilst a medical team entered the field of play and an ambulance was seen leaving Craven Cottage shortly after.

Kevin Toyne, a sports therapist formerly of SUFC Medical, offered his support yesterday on social media.

“Personally and Professionally I would like to wish my very best with his recovery after yesterday’s horrible injury. Such a lovely bloke who has been very supportive of KJTsportstherapy (Mr Toyne’s company) and is a credit to his family and Professional Football…

“I am sure Chris will have all the best wishes of the wider football family.”

Basham, 35, sustained the injury in the first half when attempting a cross into the box. He received a warm reception from the travelling fans as he was stretchered off.

Sheffield United released a statement on X: “We send our best wishes to Bash, and will communicate updates as and when we have them.”

Sheffield United’s fortunes didn’t improve for the rest of the game. Fulham’s Bobby De Cordova Reid scored the opener in the 53rd minute.

The game was tied at 1-1 after an Antonee Robinson own goal in the 68th minute, but the home side persevered and left the Cottage 3-1 winners.

The Blades remain at the bottom of the league going into the international break. Their next opponents are Manchester United at home on the 21st October.
