Sheffield Home of Football, a charity that celebrated its official launch earlier this month, has named its new and first Chief Executive as Nick Partridge BEM.

Mr Partridge was named in 2022’s New Year’s Honours List for his services to public libraries, being commended for his work on promoting Sheffield’s footballing heritage to the local community.

He said: “I don’t claim to be an expert on the historic football detail, or even have a ‘footballing brain’, but I am passionate about Sheffield, and how we can use its unique football heritage to educate and celebrate what this city has done in forging the world’s favourite game.”

Mr Partridge is tasked with setting into motion the charity’s plans to create a world-class museum as well as promoting education and awareness of the city’s footballing history.

He has already worked with the charity, overseeing the launch of SHOF’s walking app which guides users on a tour of Sheffield’s historic footballing landmarks.

He was also involved in promoting notable progressive causes such as celebrating women’s football during the Women’s Euros 2022 and working with Sheffield-based charity Football Unites Racism Divides.

Mr Partridge’s appointment comes soon after he was announced as a trustee of the charity, due to the passing of previous trustees Martin Westby and Councillor Anne Murphy.

The role is voluntary until funding from donors and sponsors are secured.
