Public meetings are being held throughout the county to allow local communities an opportunity to express their opinion on how government funding is impacting bus services.
The campaign is being led by Mayor of South Yorkshire, Oliver Coppard, who highlights the downgrade of the bus routes due to a lack of funding.
Mr Coppard has visited some of the communities that have been the most affected by service cuts and transport connectivity issues, in areas such as Woodseats and Chapeltown.
A meeting was hosted Friday 24 November at Workstation in Sheffield’s city centre and another is due to take place at Rotherham Town Hall on Monday 18 December.
Mr Coppard said: “I’m doing everything I can to get the government to give us a fair funding deal, because bus services are vital.
“Not just for our economy, so we can see our families, get to school or to work, but as a means of allowing people to access opportunity wherever it might be.”
He added: “That is even more true when we are facing a climate crisis. We should be investing in buses.
“I am determined to fight these cuts, so we can have the public transport system we deserve.”
Mr Coppard is urges for anybody who is willing to help to sign this petition , calling for fair funding to South Yorkshire.
