Pro Palestine protesters occupied The Wave, the newest University of Sheffield building, during its formal opening night to show solidarity with Palestinian citizens.
Many of the protesters are believed to be students, namely members of the university’s Palestine Society, with members of the Sheffield Socialist Party taking part too.
Before entering the building, protesters rallied outside, blocking many of the exits, calling for the University to cease their links with the arms trade that funds the Israeli military.
This follows on from the student walkout that occurred on the 17 November, where students were called to leave their classrooms at 10:30am and gather outside Sheffield Town Hall to demonstrate their demands for a ceasefire.
The society, via their Instagram, said: “We demand our universities must sever all research, commercial and institutional partnerships with Israel.
“They must divest from weapons manufacturers which arms Israel’s genocide in Gaza.”
