Sheffield Hospitals Charity has opened registrations for their Christmas tree collection service in the new year.

In exchange for a donation of any amount, the charity will be collecting and recycling real Christmas trees.

Once collected, the trees will be recycled and reused throughout Sheffield.

Trees will be taken to a local drop off point where their tree surgeons will chip them. The chippings are then recycled within the community in areas such as farms for cattle bedding and allotments for garden paving.

Katie Fielding, 29, events fundraising manager for the charity, said: “A lot of Christmas trees end up in landfill, so we wanted to do something that also benefits the environment.

“It gives something back to the community and helps the environment, and those are two things that as a charity we want to achieve.”

The collections will take place between 11-14 January, in S5, S35, and in parts of S36, S6 and S10.

Their tree recycling campaign is in partnership with Just Helping, who have previously recycled over 3500 trees.

After the costs are deducted, 85% of the money raised will go to Sheffield Hospitals Charity and 15% will be donated to the local Yorkshire 4×4 Response Charity, who help provide transport for emergency services and NHS staff during bad weather.
