Sheffield Wednesday earned their first win of the season under new manager Danny Röhl on Sunday as they looked to supress relegation concerns.

The Owls comfortably beat Rotherham United 2-0 with a controlling performance earning them a massive three points in their attempt to escape the hole dug by previous manager Xisco Muñoz.

Former Rotherham player Michael Smith bagged twice for the Owls, dismissing the jeers and expletives being sent his way from the away fans.

Following his commendable performance against Watford last weekend, Anthony Musaba received a standing ovation from the Hillsborough crowd after another promising showing.

While Wednesday still sit at the bottom of the championship, the improvement in performances is clear to see for the S7 faithful, and the prospect of escaping relegation seems more realistic.

The same can’t be said for Sheffield United and Sheffield FC who suffered losses this weekend, as they too sit at the bottom of their respective leagues.

Sheffield United headed to the Emirates to face Arsenal whose current form might make a loss excusable, however the 5-0 scoreline raised further concerns about manager Paul Heckingbottom’s future at the club.

As relegation looms, a huge weekend lies ahead for Sheffield’s clubs.
