A Sheffield mum hopes to raise both money and awareness for prostate cancer after loosing her dad who battled the disease for five years.
Natalie Garrett, 34, is hosting a Halloween ball to raise money for prostate cancer.
Mrs Garrett’s dad passed away two years ago at age 64.
He was diagnosed in 2016 where he was told there was no cure for his diagnosis.
On 28 October 2023, Crookes social club will be transformed into a haunted hall.
Mrs Garrett said: “My dad loved the Halloween balls I had done previously.”
The evening will include live music, a magician, an auction and Halloween costume competitions, alongside a photographer who will be capturing moments from the spooky night.
All the money raised at the ball will go towards Prostate Cancer UK.
She hopes this can go towards furthering research and new trials helping to cure the horrible disease.
Mrs Garrett’s dad took part in a trial, where he was given chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone drugs.
Although this helped until 2020, he still required treatment and was also diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2021.
She said: “My dad swore to be at home which we managed to do with the great help of district nurses.
“He passed away in his home with all his family and friends around him on 24 September 2021.”
It’s been eight years since Natalie threw a charity event and has decided to return with a ball to include everyone in the community.
She hopes ”to raise at least £1500 and raise a bit of awareness around prostate cancer”.
Tickets can either be bought by emailing charityhalloweenballsheffield@gmail.com or can be purchased at Crookes Social club or The works Beauty studio88 Crookes Sheffield.
