The #WeCan’tLoseLeadmill campaign gained support from Sheffield’s Abbeydale brewery, who have created a new IPA in collaboration with the iconic venue.
Abbeydale’s ‘Soul of Sheffield’ IPA is the fourth beer to be added to the collection, alongside ones from Thornbridge, Triple Point Brewery and Heist Brewing company.
Robin Baker, aged 36, from the Sales Duty Export department at Abbeydale brewery said: “We’ve always been passionate about supporting local business, it’s one of the reasons we don’t supply to the major supermarkets.
“We’d much rather support the local economy, and a lot of our customers are within Sheffield city limits so we like to champion local independent business.”
The 5.6 per cent IPA uses an Australian single hop called vic secret, providing fruity tropical notes with a herbal finish.
The design of the packaging features the Leadmill logo, but is kept in line with Abbeydale’s signature, hand-drawn branding.
Robin, originally from Walkley said: “it’s always nice if I have to jump in the van and deliver the cans, sometimes it’s nice just to step back foot in the place. I don’t get to go very much anymore, I’ve got young children so my days of going out on a Monday night are long gone. It brings back a lot of good memories.”
As a musician who has performed on stage at Leadmill Robin said: “It’s just a Sheffield institution, you can’t be a dull person, or be anyone that’s interested in comedy or music and not support the Leadmill.
“It’s part and parcel of the fabric of the city, and a lot of that is the people that work there and run it.”
The new IPA is now available at both the Abbeydale brewery and the Leadmill.
