A charity cookbook, by Sheffield-based organisation B:Friend, includes delicious recipes and special stories handed down through the generations by the local older neighbours that use the service.
Sarah Kopecsni, Communications Officer at B:Friend, said: “It is raising awareness of the fact that we have so many older neighbours that are forgotten. I think its very important to see that life doesn’t end at a certain age and we still need that social connection and friendship.”
Food is a great unifier and it is something that we can relate to.”
B:Friend is a Sheffield-based charity set to combat the damaging impacts of loneliness and isolation.
The cookbook will be funding the organisation that recruits volunteer befrienders, who pledge to drop in to just spend an hour chatting, listening and supporting neighbours over 65 years old and who may otherwise have no one.
Miss Kopescni, said: “We come across and work with many older people we know that they have so much to share and we don’t want them to feel left behind and forgotten.
“Everything from traditional Yorkshire puddings and recipes from all over the world poland, and even a limoncello cocktail its a perfect christmas present if you have any foodie friends and want help us out.”
Rahul Mandal, The Great British Bake Off Winner in 2018, who made a special contribution to the book, said on B:Friend’s website: These recipes are more than food; they’re a taste of shared stories, memories and the importance of togetherness.”
