Properties on Fargate were forced to close on Tuesday after a burst water pipe put the busy shopping area of the city centre to a halt.
A construction worker accidentally pierced a water pipe on Fargate and caused water to cascade into the air.
The downpour of water flooded nearby pavements and roads, causing disruption on the busy street, and a traffic jam for cars driving through the city.
Numerous businesses and premises, including office buildings, are without water
The burst was caused by a digger, which had penetrated the pipe, whilst construction to regenerate the street took place.
The incident has led to several local properties, such as Boots, being forced to close.
Early reports suggest that some premises are without toilet facilities.
Yorkshire Water has confirmed that repair teams are on their way to repair the damage.
Fargate is currently being regenerated by contractors Sisk, which is funded by the Future High Streets Fund.
