An appeal for donations to provide Christmas presents for vulnerable adults in the Steel City is still ongoing, as drop offs begin to close on 27 November.
The Sheffield Shoebox Appeal provides Christmas presents for vulnerable adults, such as the homeless, people in hostels and temporary accommodation, refuges, and the socially isolated elderly.
The Central Store will remain open on 28 October from 11 am to 4 pm for any remaining donations.
The group are collecting male boxes, female boxes, and senior boxes, as well as loose items.
Drop off points close on Monday, with the group still appealing for items, especially male boxes.
Ideas for items to include within boxes suggested by the group include fluffy socks, chocolate treats, mugs, jewellery, pens, keyrings, small games, packs of cards, handwarmers, Christmas decorations, puzzle books, and biscuits.
They are asking members of the public not to include tinned food or any food that needs cooking, as well as alcohol, money, sanitary products, razors, knives, large bars of soap, opened toiletries, religious materials, children’s items, and hand sanitizer.
Taking to the Sheffield Shoebox Appeal website, a spokesperson for the group said: “Christmas can be a very joyous time of year, but it can be very lonely as well.
“We work closely with our charities and service providers to provide a bit of Christmas cheer for the homeless, people in hostels, temporary accommodation and safe refuges, and the socially isolated elderly.
“Most of them have access to basic items like toothbrushes and paste, toiletries and food, but don’t have those little luxuries we all appreciate. For many of them, this will be the only Christmas present they get, so we want to make sure our boxes are full of treats and luxury items.”
