The Sheffield University Volunteering Committee hosted a Movember moustache decorating event to raise awareness for men’s mental health.
Students decorated their own stache and learnt how giving back can improve their mental health.
Campaign officer Beth Wordley, said: “So we wanted to do an event with something fun, we thought a lot of people in November grow their beard or their moustache, and so a lot of people don’t shave during the month.
“So we thought it’d be fun to decorate some moustaches so people can either stick them to certain things or carry them around in a bag.”
In addition to raising awareness about men’s mental health, the event encourages student participation in volunteering and addresses their mental well-being.
Ms Wordley said: “I think the aim was because we wanted to talk about the important topic, men’s mental health.
“So we wanted to do an event, as we thought this would be the perfect month for that because November is linked with men’s month and awareness for men’s issues and problems in society.
“Another reason why is because we really struggle to probably get men involved in volunteering as a sort of activity.
“We’re trying to promote the actual volunteering itself and to men, because it can also help with things like mental health. It is sort of a give and take thing, which is really good for everyone.”
They also hope to collaborate with charities in the future to actively contribute to addressing men’s mental health issues.
Ms Wordley said: “I think this is more activity based, but when it comes to actual men’s mental health, I think it could work with charities such as helping hand.
“It’s just to deal with the light of a lot of mental’s homelessness in the community, and then also provides a two hour training session so people can give back and stuff.”
