‘Letters to Heaven’ postboxes were placed throughout Sheffield in July this year so families and friends can communicate with lost family members this winter.

Chloe Hill, 41, who campaigned for the postboxes to be installed, said: “I want every grieving family in Sheffield to have somewhere to go to connect with their lost loved ones this winter.”

The Thereapuetic Counsellor from Woodseats, Sheffield started a GoFundMe and Facebook fundraiser in January 2023  and managed to raise over £1300, enough to install six boxes.

Miss Hill lost both her mother and best friend, Katie, to cancer and said: “I got the idea from a crematorium in Nottingham installing white post boxes on their grounds and I wanted families to have somewhere to go to post their Mother’s Day card, Christmas cards and birthday cards.”

Miss Hill said: “It was an awful year caring for then and then grieving for my mum. I was heartbroken and devastated at the loss of my Mum and wanted to talk to her more than ever.

“Katie was an absolute powerhouse of a woman and our friendship was so special, just lifting each other up, and I feel genuinely lost without her.”

The postboxes were placed at Grenoside Crematorium, Shiregreen Cemetery, Hutcliffe Wood Crematorium, Burncross Cemetery, Tinsley Park Cemetery, and City Road Cemetery.
