A disgraced Sheffield Wednesday fan who mocked the death of Bradley Lowrey has avoided time behind bars.
Dale Houghton, 31, displayed an image of Bradley Lowrey towards Sunderland fans at Hillsborough on September 29, mocking his death from neuroblastoma, a rare type of cancer, at the age of six in 2017.
The incident soon went viral on social media and triggered backlash from football fans up and down the country.
Houghton appeared at Sheffield Magistrates Court for sentencing on Friday after previously pleading guilty to a public order offence of intentionally causing harassment, alarm or distress by displaying any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting.
Houghton was handed a 12-week custodial sentence, which has been suspended for 18 months.
He also received a five-year banning order from football stadiums alongside 200 hours of unpaid work.
