The BBC’s leading charity, Children in Need, will be airing its annual telethon on Friday 17 November with Haven House being one of its many projects.

Haven House is a registered charity that works with children and young people across Sheffield who have been affected by domestic abuse.

The charity runs programmes and activities such as training services for families and one-to-one support for children and their wider families. As well as delivering training to professionals and individuals to help build their skills and knowledge when supporting children and young people.

The charity, established over 40 years ago, was set up as a refuge to support women and children affected by domestic abuse and has since merged with two other refuges to spread support across the city.

The refuge explores different concepts to tackle trauma left by domestic abuse, such as therapeutic group work and peer support.

The charity recently ran a session at Arbouthorne Community Primary School and the school said on the charity’s website: “This has been a wonderful programme for our children to access here at Arbourthorne Community Primary School.

It has given our children confidence and empowered them to become positive role models. Their knowledge about feelings, bullying and how to be a positive bystander has strengthened and it has been lovely to see children grow in confidence week by week.”
