A Sheffield man has been jailed for 25 years at the Sheffield Crown Court, after being found guilty of sexually abusing a child in September.

Sam Chetty, of Morgan Avenue, Sheffield, refused to admit to his crimes after pleading not guilty in September.

On Friday 1 September a jury at Sheffield Crown Court found him guilty following a four-day trial, South Yorkshire Police have revealed.

The jury found Chetty guilty of multiple sex offences, including four counts of rape of a boy under 13 and two counts of sexual penetration of a boy under 13.

The court heard brutal details of how Chetty raped one victim on multiple occasions, with the incidents beginning when the child was only six years old.

South Yorkshire Police Investigating Officer, Amy Todd, said: “Chetty has put his victim through years of trauma following the abuse he committed. It is only right he serves this time behind bars.”

Chetty also pleaded guilty to two counts of taking, producing and distributing indecent images of a child.

The offences involved a separate victim and were committed while Chetty was on bail. He was sentenced for the charges on Thursday.

South Yorkshire Police said in a statement: “Remember, the law provides lifelong anonymity for victims of sex crimes and it is a criminal offence to disclose their name or share any information that could lead to their identification.”

Officer Todd said: “The victim has shown great bravery during our investigation and I hope this sentence gives him the justice he needs to move on with his life.”
